Here is the interview with Sean James about the Perus Crew’s latest full length video Get The Fuckin Beers In Dickhead!
Sean is one of the founders of this Finnish skateboard company. In this interview he will explain to us all the background of the film.
You just need to read the interview 🙂

The interview is taken from the 3rd issue of my magazine CLICK HERE if you want to check it out

Why that name “GET THE FUCKING BEERS IN DICKHEAD” ?
Perus started as a crew at the hands of Pirkka Pollari about 13 years ago. When i moved to Finland in 2009 the Perus guys had just released their 7th full length video called PP7, I was completely blown away by it and over the next couple of years got to know them really well. It became apparent to me that Perus was already a household name in Finnish skateboarding and basically a company already, they just didn’t have any products yet, so we teamed up with Pirkka, Jesse Turunen and myself and formed as a company.
The most striking thing about the crew was the attitude with which they went about their operations. No serious stuff, no deadlines, formal goals or pressure to make parts. It just came naturally and the level of skating was ridiculous. This attitude really comes across in the videos, everyone performing out of love for skateboarding, and motivated by each other, not money or to be the best.
When we were in Barcelona escaping the cold Finnish winters, it became a constant saying when we were skating and rambling. Get t he fucking beers in dickhead, it was the response to everything and a very solid reflection of our attitude towards skating.
Get the Fucking Beers in Dickhead became the obvious choice for the name of the video which we couldn’t figure out until 2 weeks before the world premiere in Berlin.

Are You satisfied with this work?
I’m extremely happy with how the video came out. Like I said, nobody was really specifically filming for this initially, we just kind of realized 7 months before that its been a while since we put out a full length video due to the fact so many of the riders constantly had other video parts and web parts to work on for their shoe and clothing sponsors. We decided we would put a video together to premiere at the bright trade show and this is what we ended up with.

With what are you most satisfied?
The filming, no fisheye HD, editing, music, title and the overall vibe of the video really portrays how we view and execute our skateboarding. And was really stoked to see some of the younger guys and specifically the boards team pulling through with really excellent parts

Who are the riders in the movie?
Jesse Turunen, Pirkka Pollari, Eniz Fazliov, Simo Mäkelä, Tommy May, Madars Apse, Ross McGouran, Dallas Rockvam, Sami Miettinen, Miika Sandelin, and Niilo Nikkanen have the main parts as well as some flow/friends and team riders who only had HD footage so we didn’t use it.

Your favorite part in the movie?
I like all of them, but the first part from Tommy May maybe had the biggest impact on me, he’s like my little brother and it’s been astonishing to see how his skating has developed in the last 2 years. he really has manufactured himself a style which is unique compared to most.

How was the response of the public at the premiere in Berlin?
I was really blown away by the turnout, we organized the premiere in a dirty underground cavern club called Freudenreich it is made up of several different dark rooms and one large cavern where we rigged up a makeshift screen with some bedsheets and built some kind of device to hang the projector from the roof. The guys at the club really helped out a lot and we had some of the best DJs in Berlin playing in the various rooms after the premiere. We held on for a long time to play the video and as we pressed the play button, we looked around the room and the 160 seating spaces we set up were not only occupied but every standing space in the room was crammed, About 300 people squeezed in somehow. As a last minute decision we found Paul Labade who had just come from playing Phil Zwijsen’s time Lapse which he had just produced, and as a suprise banged it out first.
Then we dropped Get The Fucking Beers in Dickhead and it really spoke for itself. The crowd were very vocal and everyone left with a massive smile on their face, apart from those who blacked out from being too drunk and getting promptly escorted out by the very understanding bouncers 🙂

There have been some serious injuries during the filming? (hard slams)
One of our main board riders from the past Jussi Toropainen only had a few clips in the friends section because he destroyed his ACL launching down a large set of stairs. As it happened he developed his stoner rock band Tombstoned so much during the recovery after the surgery that by the time he could skate again, they were signed by volcom records, featured in metal hammer magazine and are now currently travelling the world playing gigs. So, no time left for skating on the same level he was at before.
Also our German family representative Alexander ‘Siggy’ Sigfried started filming for the video without understanding that we wouldn’t use HD footage if it was filmed with a fisheye, so unfortunately we couldnt use the footage, when he found out he went straight out to business with VX, tried a line where he kick flip front blunted a bench and kickflipped a 14 stair, he knows he can do it first go so completely went for it but it went rocket, he kicked out and the ankle blew at the bottom. So very sadly no tricks from him, but he’s back on board as we speak and you can expect to see some serious video part from him this year in our next video project.

Some of the most funniest facts during filming?
Getting the fucking beers in, rambling the streets, rolling the dreamers, swinging the chins and clocking into the nosebusting station.

In how much time was filmed and edited?
In about 7 months.

Now , the movie it’s on Kingpin with a part every week ,we will see it on vimeo or youtube? Where I can buy the DVD?
We want people to watch it, it will be online in full on MPORA after all the parts have been released though kingpin. Just like at our premiere/party it will be free for everyone to see and a download link will be unveiled eventually. The support of buying a Perus product would be great, but were in this for the love of skateboarding and living for what it really is, we wont make people pay to see what were doing.

Do you have some extra footage to upload?
There is a lot of footage, we may release some of it as bsides or something like that, but we have divided our massive team and have 3 new video projects under way, you will hear more about this as the year progresses.

last words or thanks?
Thank you skateboarding, to all the corporate whores who profit from skateboarding whilst the true soldiers struggle to eat, you can burn in the eternal karmic bound you have tied yourselves into.
Thank you to everyone that helped us out along the way. Kingpin magazine has supported us for a long time with the understanding of what were doing and not based on financial commitment.
All the people who have contributed for the pure love of broadcasting real skateboarding and real friends.
