Wita Footwear Interview

Wita footwear is a really new Italian skateboard shoe company.The footwear company is formed by 2 italian skaters from Milan with 20 years of experience. To know more about this company I have asked them a few questions about this project.

Tell us a bit about how this adventure was born…How did the idea of starting this company come about? explain what inspired you to start this company.
Is a project that was born by two Italian skaters precisely in Milan, the idea started in early 2012. We wanted to create a shoe that would combine good quality with a retail price lower than other brands. At this time if we look at the construction of the new skateboard shoes, we realize that all look alike and people do not know that many times are the same models but with different brand names. So based on this, and especially also the crisis of our country we wanted to produce this shoe.

Why is it called Wita?
Wita, is an acronym for Viva Italy. This is an exclamation that is used in our country that means is that things are going well or things go wrong. So we decided to use it!

At the moment you have only one model for sale ,isn’t it?
Yes, at this time we only have one model and one color available, but we soon realize another model and increase the range of colors.

Do you prefer a cupsole shoe to a vulcanized shoe and why?
We have personally tried many soles, and we chose this particular model of cupsole because it contains the grip and the softness of a vulcanized but the lightness and strength of a Cupsole classic.

It’s one of your ideas to widen even more your brand in other European countries?
We would like to expand our brand across Europe, the solution is to sponsor riders in various countries, but this is only possible when we have a good feedback from Italy.

Who’s been designing the shoes ?
The shoes are designed in Italy according to our personal taste, but also pleasing style when evaluating the design of the competitors.

Who is in your team at the moment?
Now we have two very promising riders for two different specialties.
Guido Zanotto for skateboarding technical and Stefano Barbizzi for extreme downhill longboard.

What qualities will you be looking for in a skater when it comes to sponsorships?
The first quality we look for in a skateboarder is to want to grow in their passion every day with dedication and constant effort. Of course, to join the team you must have a high technical level in order to compete with other skaters from other countries and develop the brand image as much as possible.

Do you have any new models releasing in the near future or some new products (t-shirts, hoodies…)?
Surely we are working to produce a new model as well as stickers and t-shirts.

In your personal opinion, how has the skateboarding scene in your country changed over the years and what is it like now?
At this time the Italian scene is growing slowly but is moving well over 15 years ago. Perhaps before you practiced skateboarding just for fun, now the boys influenced by internet looking for the sponsor and apply more about the tricks. However skateboarding executive’s Italian does not have great numbers as there are great facilities to practice in one of the most beautiful European squares located in Milan where they were shot many videos of skateboarding.

How has the skateboarding industry changed from when you were just getting your career started?
I think the skateboarding industry has remained the same for both materials, while the style changes every year. Change only the sales numbers by country.

What are your plans for the future ..
Grow as much as possible to support the Italian scene of skateboarding, and not only with the shoes manufactured by us with a quality / price ratio better than the competitors.
